Hydration Hype
In childhood the last thing I wanted at any given moment was water. Some kind of juice was always my go-to and I have what seems like an infinite number of memories where my mother would say something about how my teeth would rot due to the amount of fruit juice seven-year-old me was consuming.
In my early adulthood, if I don’t have 32 ounces of water in front of me at all times, I might have a meltdown. It’s become an oral fixation for me and there are so many worse vices I could have; perpetual water drinking is not the worst thing I could be doing to my body. I see the benefits in my skin, my attention span and focus, as well as in my cortisol levels.
Real water drinkers know room temperature water is the best because you can drink a ton of it in a small timespan. When it comes to hydration, however, everyone needs help every now and again which is why I started occasionally adding electrolytes to my water. One of my roommates in college used to buy pickles a few times per week because she would forget she already bought pickles earlier, so we had an excess of pickle jars in the apartment. We did some research one night and learned that pickle juice has tons of electrolytes in it. Once AJ figured out about the electrolytes, I watched her drink all the juice from over half a dozen jars of pickles over the course of the week. The pickles remained uneaten but she felt great after her workouts.
If you don’t like pickles, relax; there is an easier way. Auryu has branded electrolytes to be released soon. Not pickle flavored. Electrolytes are a nice treat for me every once in a while but I always lean toward regular water. The people in my life who do drink electrolytes often absolutely swear by them.
Hydration overall is one of the most important things one can do to maintain their health. I remember in high school when my peers were struggling with acne (don’t worry, I’m struggling now in my early twenties) one of the best “tips” for “curing” acne that was circulating online at the time was “Just drink water and your acne will go away!” I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but that doesn’t work. It does give your skin a nice glow which is never a bad thing.
So remember folks- drink water, stay hydrated, and pickle juice has so many electrolytes.
